Featuring handcrafted artisan cheese from locally raised cows and goats, Nordic Creamery produces some of Wisconsin's finest cheese, including Aged Cheddar Cheese, Mild Smoked Cheddar, Mountain Jack Cheese, Capriko Cheese and Feddost Cheese. Nordic Creamery is located near Westby and La Crosse, Wisconsin, in Vernon County, and features some of Wisconsin's most beautiful hills and valleys. This area is known as the Coulee Region, as it is situated in the "Driftless" geography and recognized world wide as unglaciated topography.
The Bekkum-Langaard family is a 4th generation Wisconsin dairy family living on the family farmstead since they immigrated from Norway. The Bekkum-Langaard family members have not only been involved in dairy farming but also in the cheese business in the Coulee Region. Al is a licensed Wisconsin butter maker and award-winning cheesemaker. He has won blue ribbons at national cheese championships held annually by the American Cheese Society, The U.S. Cheesemakers Association and the Wisconsin State Fair. He has earned a reputation for making the finest goat's milk cheeses, which has grown by leaps and bounds in the last 20 years. Sales in 2006 were 50 million dollars!
Al Bekkum creates artisan handcrafted cheese using goat's milk as well as blended milks - creating his unique signature cheeses. Here's a sampling:
Aged Cheddar Cheese - Our Aged Cheddar is a semi-hard cheese full of rich naturally aged flavor made from fresh goat's milk.
Mountain Jack Cheese - This cheese is semi-soft with a rich creamy flavor made from goat's milk and perfect for eating and cooking.
Capriko Cheese - A semi-hard cheese, sweet and nutty in flavor, made from goat's and cow's milk.
Smoked Capriko Cheese - Same as Capriko Cheese but smoked. Both are great as a table cheese & for cooking.
Mild Cheddar Cheese - Made from goat's milk. All of our cheese is crafted with pride & always from the freshest milk.
Mild Smoked Cheddar Cheese - Mild Cheddar with a hint of smoky flavor.
Feddost Cheese - Made from goat's and cow's milk - handcrafted with a curd infusion of cumin & cloves, giving it a sweet & spicy flavor.
