Attractions
With over 3,364
acres of lakes and located 60 miles east of Minneapolis, Dunn
County is known as " A Good Life For You and Your Family".
Its name was derived from Charles Dunn, first Chief Justice of
the Supreme Court of the Wisconsin territory, appointed by President
Andrew Jackson in 1835.
Recreational areas
and activities are plentiful in Dunn County. From public hunting
grounds to fishing, from golf to hiking and snowmobiling, you
pick the activity and Dunn County has the place to do it. There
are 15,823 acres designed for recreational use, with
over 864 acres that are developed. There are numerous launching
sites in Dunn County for the boating enthusiast. Canoeing is also
a favorite pastime in Dunn County. Since the time of the early
explorers, Dunn County waters have been traveled by canoe. At
present, there are three canoe trails covering over 77 miles of
beautiful scenery, with many public access points. Whether it's
water skiing, sail boarding, fishing, or just a scenic ride, Dunn
County will fill your needs.
The Dunn County
Recreation Park is home to the Dunn County Fair in July, hockey
tournaments from October through March, Red Cedar Speedway Races
from April through September, and many other weekend exhibits
all year round ranging from horse shows to home shows. Facilities
may be rented.
The 14.5 mile
Red Cedar State Trail follows the Red Cedar River from Menomonie
to
Dunnville where it joins with the 20 mile long Chippewa Valley
Trail to Eau Claire. The Red Cedar Trail, with its crushed limestone
surface, is perfect for hiking, biking or cross country skiing.
Bike and ski rentals are available in Menomonie.
Several historic
sites of note include the Mabel Tainter Memorial, Wilson Place
Museum, and the Dunn County Heritage Museum in Menomonie, the
Caddie Woodlawn Roadside Park and the Empire in Pine Lumbering
Museum in Downsville.

Heritage Museum

Headquarters of the Dunn County Historical Society, the Heritage
Museum interprets the history of Dunn County through its extensive
collection of artifacts and new exhibit areas. Located in Menomonie's
Wakanda Park
Wilson Place Mansion
101 Wilson Circle, Menomonie
Constructed in 1859 by Captain William Wilson, founder of the
City of Monomonie and the Knapp, Stout & Co. Get a glimpse
into the lives of the Wilson family legacy and each of the house's

Parks and Nature Centers
Red Cedar State
Trail
Route 6, Hwy 29 West, Menomonie
Stroll, bike or ski along the scenic Red Cedar River on the route
of the 1830s Red Cedar Junction railroad line. The 14.5 mile
Red Cedar State Trail features a crushed limestone surface which
is perfect for hiking and biking and in the winter it is open
for cross-country skiing.

Hoffman Hills State Recreation Area provides a great hiking experience.
A 60-foot tower provides viewing of a four county area. Hiking
trails traverse prairie, woodland, or wetlands. Back to

Bring the whole family and enjoy a real county fair experience
at the Dunn County Fair in July. Speedway races are held from
April to September as well as other activities. Call for specific

Connell's Orchard

The Connell family has been growing apples in Wisconsin for over
100 years. They purchased this orchard in 1939 and it is still
managed by the family today. The Connell Orchard is also known
as "Home of the Connell Red Apple".
