Trempealeau
County Scenic Trempealeau County has so many things to see and do -- it's a great place to live or to visit! From historic communities, the mighty Mississippi, majestic bluffs and rolling hills, to all the outdoor recreational opportunities, it's no wonder that Trempealeau County in southwestern Wisconsin has become a popular vacation destination. Outdoor Activities Trempealeau County's eight lakes along with the Mississippi River and numerous rivers and streams provide water recreation to suit everyone's interests. You can boat, water ski, canoe, swim, rent a houseboat or fish for rainbow and brook trout which are abundant in the cold water streams and rivers or fish for panfish and walleye in the Mississippi. Camping in the state parks or on a sandbar in the Mississippi is a popular attraction, as are golfing, tennis, sightseeing, walking and picnicking! Biking, hiking, cross country skiing, snowmobiling and exploring are fun activities along the scenic Great River Road, which also travels through the Trempealeau National Wild Like Refuge. The Trempealeau National Wild Life Refuge provides a unique opportunity to view an unusual abundance and variety of plants and animals. With about thirty percent of the county's land area covered by forests, these woodland habitats support a wide range of wildlife including whitetail deer, black bears, fox, coyotes, wild turkey, grouse, pheasants, raptors and songbirds. The country's whitetail deer ranges extends more than fifty-five percent of the county (over 410 square miles), much of which is accessible for public hunting. In the Fall, thousands of migrating waterfowl draw hunters to this area. Trempealeau County's scenic drives, back roads, and trails provide easy access to spectacular views of the countryside, mountainous bluffs, waterways, wildlife, historic communities and the peaceful Amish countryside.
