With
breath-taking scenery year round and a land filled with many wonders of
nature and history, Richland County has lots to see and do. Located in the
center of Southwest Wisconsin, Richland County is nestled half way between La Crosse and Madison in an area known as the Ocooch Mountains.
Richland County's charming communities, including Richland Center, the county seat and the largest city in
the county; Lone Rock, Viola, Cazenovia, Rockbridge, Hillsboro and Blue
River, and lots of local hospitality, will keep you coming back for more.
Historical & Natural Wonders
Richland County is full of natural wonders,
stunning scenery, historic sites, and 19th century architecture. In Richland
Center, you can visit The Warehouse, a wondrous warehouse that Frank
Lloyd Wright built that is highly reminiscent of a Mayan temple.
Visitors also will find the Park Hotel built in 1873; the County Courthouse built in 1889;
and homes and shops from the1850's along beautiful tree-lined streets. On a
drive through the countryside spectacular geologic formations like Elephant Rock, Natural Bridge, and Steamboat Rock spring-up unexpectedly from the landscape and Wisconsin's largest onyx cave, Eagle Cave, tunnels through it.
You'll also seen picturesque wooded bluffs and hills, meandering rivers and streams,
pioneer churches; and family farms over 150 years
old.
Outdoor Recreation
In every season of the year outdoor enthusiasts can
experience fun of all kinds, including camping, hiking,
biking, boating, horseback riding, swimming, canoeing the Kickapoo, Pine and Wisconsin Rivers, hunting, fishing, swimming, cross country skiing, ice skating,
and snowmobiling. Richland County's woods and grasslands host an abundance of game birds and animals. This is one of Wisconsin's best and favorite areas for deer, pheasant and turkey hunting. The area's healthy rabbit, squirrel, coyote and fox populations also challenge and reward skillful hunters.
Golfers can choose from a variety of golf courses that will suit both beginner
and experienced golfers.
