Hillsboro
A Progressive & Friendly Community
The picturesque community of
Hillsboro is located in the rolling hills and hidden valleys of eastern
Vernon County in Southwest Wisconsin. Hillsboro is known as the "Czech Capital of Wisconsin"
-- the area attracted many Czechoslovakian immigrants because the rolling terrain reminded them of their native
land!
With lots of trails for biking, hiking, cross-country skiing and
snowmobiling, and rivers and streams for canoeing and fishing, Hillsboro
offers great outdoor recreation and a friendly and thriving community.
Industry and Community
Over 120 businesses are located in
and around the city, creating a prosperous local economy. A progressive and
active community, Hillsboro promotes housing and commercial development with a municipal industrial park and residential sub-division.
Hillsboro celebrates its ethnic
heritage and family values with cultural festivals and community events.
Visitors and residents alike enjoy the
celebrating Cesky Den (Czech Days). Held the second weekend of
June each year, this event honors Hillsboro's heritage. Thousands of visitors come to Firemen's Park to experience
traditional Czech food, music, arts and crafts and other festivities. A
4th of July Summer Celebration, Labor Day Fair and Fall Fest are just a
few of the community events for all to enjoy.
Outdoor Recreation
The Hillsboro area features lots of great
recreation for outdoor sports enthusiasts. Cyclists will enjoy countless
biking opportunities including the new Hillsboro Trail - a seven-mile route
that follows the West Branch of the Baraboo River and crosses several times on wooden bridges. The trail links up with the 400 State Bicycle Trail in Union Center, which also connects with the popular Elroy-Sparta bike trail.
Cyclists also will find easy access to Vernon County's vast network of scenic, paved town and county roads.
Wildcat Mountain State Park is a popular attraction and features
beautiful scenery, hiking trails, horse riding trails, cross country winter ski
trails, picnic areas, and family camping. Another
fun activity is canoeing on the Kickapoo River, the crookedest river in
Wisconsin! Hunting, fishing and snowmobiling are also popular recreational
pastimes.
Shopping, Dining & Lodging
After experiencing the scenic beauty
and outdoor recreation of the area, you will want to visit the bustling
community of Hillsboro for great shopping, eating and sleeping.
Downtown Hillsboro features a variety of attractive shops and
businesses and one-of-a kind local eateries. Bed and breakfast inns, lodge
and cabins, and a family hotel with indoor pool and other amenities are
all available to accommodate travelers.
