Located in southeastern Wisconsin not far from Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison, Elkhorn offers lots of charm and small town friendliness and is well-known for great recreational attractions, special events and festivals. Elkhorn has long been recognized as "The Christmas Card Town." Artists over the years have painted picturesque scenes from Elkhorn to capture the beauty of the season on Christmas cards. Today these scenes have been reprinted by the hundreds of thousands on Christmas cards and are available year round at the Chamber of Commerce office. During the holiday season, thousands of visitors come to Elkhorn to see this beautiful town celebrate the holiday season! Business & Industry Elkhorn is a city on the grow. With more than 70 companies located in Elkhorn, today this community has a very strong economic base including manufacturing, retail and service industries. Band instrument manufacturing was one of Elkhorn's first industries and today both the Getzen Company and the Frank Holton Band Instrument Company continue this tradition. In addition, a very large share of the instrument repair work is sent to Elkhorn companies. Getzen, Everbrite, Snap-On Diagnostics, Hudapack, Colman Group, Inter Tractor and Arrow Products are just a few of the major companies that have found Elkhorn a great place to do business. Recreational & Community Activities The Elkhorn area offers wonderful recreational opportunities all year round. Lauderdale Lakes is the perfect place to enjoy fishing, boating, water skiing, swimming and sailing. In the winter the area provides outstanding ice-fishing, ice boating, skating, snowmobiling, cross-country and downhill skiing. Outdoor sports enthusiasts will also enjoy hunting and fishing in the beautiful 18,000 acre Kettle Moraine State Forest. It features trails for hiking, biking and cross-country skiing, as well as scenic wetlands and campsites. The new White River State Trail, part of the Rails to Trails state park program, offers 12 miles of scenic countryside for bikers, hikers and snowmobilers to enjoy. Five local golf courses provide scenic and challenging golf for the beginner to the experienced golfer. The community celebrates like none other with unique festivals and special events. Elkhorn is famous for its Christmas festivities and Christmas parade, which is one of the largest holiday parades for a town of its size. From arts and crafts shows, the Aqua-Skier Shows, Community Band Concerts, Quilt Auctions & Shows, Festival of Summer and more, there is great entertainment and family fun in every season. One of the biggest summer attractions in Elkhorn is the Walworth County Fair. This six-day fair is one of the largest county fairs in the Midwest and features something for everyone!
