County Rich in history, beautiful scenery, and recreational opportunities, Clark County in north central Wisconsin is a great place to visit, live or start a business. The county has12 unique cities and villages with a diverse population, a strong manufacturing and agricultural economy, excellent shopping, many natural recreational areas, and year-round activities for every member of the family. Business & Industry Clark County has a strong economic base with several industries, such as Abbyland Foods, Fleetguard Nelson, Weather Shield, Lesson Electric, and Liberty Homes, headquartered in the county. As "Wisconsin's Leader in Milk Production", Clark County is the home of many dairy manufacturers, including Grassland Dairy, Lynn Dairy, Marathon Cheese and Land of Lakes. Historical Attractions Clark County museums preserve and proudly display the history of its people, from prehistoric Native American Indian settlers to European trappers, lumberjacks, timber barons and agricultural pioneers. Historic and architecturally significant buildings, including mansions, homes, churches and commercial buildings, from the early 19th Century to the early 20th Century, are preserved and in use throughout the county. The Highground Veterans Memorial, where veterans of Vietnam, WWI, WWII and more are honored and remembered, is a popular tourist destination. The Highground is located near Neillsville in the 140-acre Veterans Memorial Park on a hill overlooking one half million acres of spectacular woodland scenery and glacial moraine. Recreational Activities In Clark County the rushing waters of the Black River, gurgling brooks and crystal clear streams flow through farmland, wooded hillsides, and forests. Since the days of the logging barons, much of Clark County's forest land has been restored to a wooded wonderland, providing home to hundreds of wildlife species and unlimited recreational opportunities. The Listeman Arboretum is composed of 50 acres of woodland along the Black River and its groomed trails offer great views of nature. The Clark County Forest provides many miles of forest trails for snowmobiling, ATVing, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, mountain biking, snowshoeing, and hiking. The Yellowstone Trail, as well as many other trails in county and local parks, also provide hiking, biking, and cross county skiing. Roads and trails through the forest provide access for hunting and trapping, scenic driving, wildlife observation, fishing and berry picking. Hunters will find abundant game, including deer, bear, geese, ducks, grouse, turkeys and more. Clark County's streams, lakes, and rivers offer abundant fish for the catching and many recreational opportunities. Anglers will find northern pike, walleye, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, catfish, bluegill, crappie and perch. Boating, swimming, and canoeing are also popular leisure activities. Lodging and Dining In Clark County you'll find plenty of excellent choices for both dining and lodging. Many restaurants, including family dining, supper clubs, resorts, bars and grills, steakhouses and more, are available to satisfy every family member's taste buds.
