Scenic
Attractions
Discover the
beauty of Buffalo County when you travel the county's roads. Unique
to Buffalo County are "dugouts'," which were originally Indian
pony trails, then stage coach routes, and today are steep, narrow,
roller-coast paths. Be adventurous and you will see century old churches,
eagles, llamas and buffaloes, as well as the unspoiled beautiful
countryside. Travel along the Buffalo River on State Hwy. 37 between Alma
and Mondovi and enjoy some of the area's most spectacular scenery in all
seasons. Another beautiful drive is the Great River Road which travels
along the Mighty Mississippi, beneath towering bluffs, through picturesque
and historic riverside cities and villages, over islands, scenic overlooks
and observation platforms. Stop to eat, visit or tour one of the
many historic riverside establishments. In Fountain City, visit the only
floating barroom on the Mississippi, and in Alma, water-taxi to the Great
Alma Fishing Float, the largest floating pier on the Mississippi.
