Community

Black River Falls provides its residents with a high quality of life and an active community. An excellent school system, many service clubs and organizations, and a strong local economy provide community living at its best. Opportunity for a higher education is available at the Black River Falls Extended Campus of Western Wisconsin Technical College. The Falls Players Community Theatre is a showcase for exceptional local talent; the theatre produces three major plays a year. Many festivals and local events are shared by visitors and residents alike, including the Karner Blue Butterfly Heritage Festival in July, Jackson County Fair in July, Cranfest in September, and many more fun family events.

 Recreation

Black River Falls offers exceptional outdoor recreational opportunities in all four seasons. Whatever activity you choose, you'll find it available in the Black River Falls area. Some of the finest canoeing and kayaking rivers and streams in Wisconsin are in the area.  The Black River is excellent for family canoeing. The river is dotted with sandbars ideal for camping and sunbathing. Nearby creeks offer stunning scenery and thrilling rapids to challenge more seasoned canoeists and kayakers. Whitewater rafting is also popular in the fast-moving, rocky rivers. Beautiful lakes and beaches provide great swimming, speed boating, jet skiing, water-skiing, and pontoon boating.

At Wazee Lake, Wisconsin's deepest lake, the exceptionally clear water offers the Midwest's finest scuba diving. The crystal clear waters offer spectacular visibility and are home to many species of fish. Fishing enthusiasts will find brook, brown and rainbow trout, as well as muskies, walleye, small mouth bass, pan fish, and  pike in the numerous streams, lakes and rivers.

Black River State Park offers hundreds of miles of trails for mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, ATVing, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Trails vary in difficulty from relatively easy riding to challenging, rugged hill climbing tracks through spectacular forest scenery. These trails connect with hundreds of miles of additional trails throughout the state. Hunters will find one of the state's largest concentrations of whitetail deer, ruffled grouse, squirrel, wild turkey, ducks and geese. Wildlife observers will enjoy the abundance of diverse wildlife, such as muskrats, beavers, mink, otters, owls, hawks eagles, the endangered Karner Blue Butterflies, timber wolves, and migrating waterfowl in spring and fall.

In addition to some of the finest trails and clearest water in the state, the area also offers challenging golf and spectacular sightseeing. Golfing on one the state's most scenic golf courses will challenge the even the best players but will also be enjoyed by the new golfer. Sightseeing along the 12.3 mile North Settlement Road, which has been designated a Rustic Road, provides spectacular country landscapes and scenery. The Wazee Trail winds for 62 miles, and along this scenic forested road sightseers by car, bike, snowmobile, motorcycle or on foot will find many species of trees, wildflowers, birds and animals. In September and October, the area's oak forests form a brilliant tapestry of red, orange, and gold colors, providing a popular and breathtaking attraction!
